Meet Maria!
Maria and I met on Twitter through a group chat. This was one of the rare times that I thanked the universe for social media. We started talking on Facetime just days later. The friendship was instant. A year later, we met in person. I flew out to Los Angeles, where Maria was living at the time. We talk pretty much every day, whether it’s sending TikToks to each other or talking on Facetime. She has traveled a lot and wants to explore so many places. I want to join her and experience those places with her. We are constantly talking or planning trips together.
We met because of the music we listen to. From liking a boy band called PrettyMuch to Harry Styles to now BTS, we have traveled through music together. Maria became a fan of BTS because I took her to Las Vegas for their concerts (read more in That Purple Feeling).
“Good morning princess” “Good morning sunshine”
We text this to each other every morning. It’s one of those little special things that help us have an awesome day.
Maria taught me the idea of working to live. She is very truthful and real with me. Recently, we have seen each other in person much more often (Covid did get in the way a little bit). I think this is because my world shifted and I started seeing a connection with Maria that I didn’t see before.
Both of us crave freedom. In our twenties, that freedom is found in seeing the world. We are planning short and long trips together because we know that we have found a common goal for both of our lives. We want to see as much of this amazing world in this one life that we each get to have. We are blessed to have the opportunity to do this together.
She is the best company to have on our adventures around the world. Our love for each other is stronger than ever and we will support and be there for one another at any and all times. I will stop whatever I’m doing if she needs me and I know she would do the same for me. That is true friendship and deep connection.
Maria doesn’t apologize for wanting things for herself. I needed to see that in another person to really feel good about it for myself. Friends like Maria are why I don’t feel loneliness in this world. I get to share my life with her. She gives me energy and keeps me in touch with passions. The world became bigger and better after she came into my life. I will always be grateful for her friendship and daring approach to life. Thank you, Maria! Let’s keep seeing the world together!
